The House

You will be staying in a beautiful, large Victorian house near the sea in Arnside. Arnside and Silverdale are areas classified as Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of the Lake District National Park. You are within very short walking distance from a bay with views of the Lake District mountains and extensive forest and hills.

The House sleeps 16 in total. But for the silent retreat, we restrict the bookings to 7 people. This puts less pressure on the kitchen and bathrooms to allow for peace and space, and also gives 4 people the option of having a private room.

The house is beautifully decorated in a quirky bohemian style with lots of places to sit and rest, including a completely private walled garden. There are plenty of books to read and of course, we encourage walking and journaling in your spare time.

Why Silence?

Often we get a sense of ourselves, our physical representation of consciousness, through the responses and reactions of other people. With this constant feedback, we take on beliefs and perceptions that may not reflect our true purpose.

Silence is where the labels that define us fall away, leaving a mind of still water — through which we can see reality clearly. In this stillness, you will discover where you need to grow and what is holding you back.

On a conscious level, we often blame others for what we cannot control. Our reactions, however, come from unprocessed wounds in the unconscious mind. In silence, these projections stop, allowing us to feel and heal what lies beneath. As this unfolds, the mind becomes still, clear, and aligned with peace, joy, love, compassion, and creativity.

Why Horses?

Horses are prey animals that live in herds. This makes them the ultimate empaths. They are always present; listening, watching and feeling for changes in their environment. Their hearts have an electro-magnetic field that is 5 times bigger than a human heart. They detect your heart rate and synchronise theirs with it. They pick up on your hormonal changes and they are the mirror to your emotional circuitry. Not only do they dial down our central nervous systems, when we invite them to bond with us, but the show us exactly how we are walking through the world and what is holding us back.

Tell me more about the horses.

During the spring and summer months, we work outdoors with my two rescue horses in the paddock. Yogi and Ellie have been meditating with people for a combination of 16 years. They connect very deeply and often lay down on the grass so that we can lay with them and cuddle. The effect of this is like a powerful natural sedative; bringing our hearts and central nervous systems into coherence and intense peace. These horses are at Amber's Field which is a 5 minute drive from the retreat house and guests will be driven there each day.

During the winter months we work with the gentle giants at Old Hall Farm in Bouth, Stan and Archie, the peaceful Shires plus the donkey, Ernie and Shetland, Ted. This is because we have a comfortable space indoors out and away from the Lake District weather.

We keep the number of horses that we work with at one time to two between a maximum of  8 people. This serves the dual purpose of keeping us safe and helps with the logistics of teaching and guiding the energy work with the horses. Before and after the teachings, guests are invited to meet the other animals and connect.
